SENIOR WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION (SOUTH) RULES 2026

1.

The Association shall be called "Senior Women’s Golf Association (South)" hereinafter referred to as SWGA.

Membership

2.      

(a) Members shall, at the time of joining:

  • have attained the age of 50 years,
  • be a member of a UK affiliated golf club,
  • have a world handicap index of 21.0 or less,
  • not be a member of another UK Senior or Veteran Golfing Region.

(b) Applicants for membership shall submit a completed Nomination Form and be proposed and seconded by another member of the Association, both of whom must have been members of the SWGA for at least two years. Alternatively, the Committee may use its discretion in approving new members.

(c) No member may propose or second more than one applicant in one year.

(d) If there are no vacancies available in the Association, applicants will be added to a waiting list and their application will follow any selection procedures in place at the time.

3.      

(a) Members who no longer wish to play golf or those temporarily unable to play may transfer to non-playing membership.

(b) Any member wishing to transfer back to playing membership (having moved to non-playing membership) will be added to the waiting list in accordance with 2 (d) and on re-admission must pay the full annual subscription.

4.      

Any member wishing to resign from the Association should give notice of her intention to do so, in writing, to the Honorary Secretary on or before the 30th September.

The Committee

5.      

All significant matters to do with the organisation of and running of the SWGA (selection procedure, funding, events, finance, etc) shall be vested in the elected Committee who will have the authority to act on behalf of the Association as they see fit for the efficient running of the Association.

6.      

The officers of the Committee shall consist of the President, Captain, the most recently retired Captain (ex officio), Vice-Captain, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer and six Ordinary members.

7.      

The Captain shall, in consultation with the President, recent past Captains and the Vice- Captain, nominate a member to be the next Vice-Captain. The nomination shall be approved by the Committee and then a resolution to elect the Vice-Captain shall be voted at the Annual General Meeting.

8.      

The appointment of the Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer shall be voted on at the Annual General Meeting. They shall serve for a maximum of three years but maybe invited to continue for one year at the Captain’s request and approval of the Committee.

9.      

The appointment of the Captain shall be voted on at the Annual General Meeting. They shall serve for one year and on retiring at the next Annual General Meeting shall serve for one further year on the Committee.

10.    

The appointment of the Ordinary members shall be voted on at the Annual General Meeting. They shall serve for a maximum of three years but may be invited to continue for one year at the Captain’s request and approval of the Committee

11.      

(a) Nomination for President and Honorary Members shall be endorsed by the Committee and voted on at the Annual General Meeting.

(b) The President’s term of office shall be two years which may be extended by one further year at the request of the Past Presidents.

12.      

Any two members of the Association may nominate a member to serve as Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer or an Ordinary member of the Committee, having previously obtained the consent of such member or members. The name of each member nominated shall be sent, in writing, to the Honorary Secretary in time for the preceding July Committee Meeting (in advance of the Annual General Meeting) for discussion and voting on by the Committee.

Committee Meetings

13.    

(a) The Committee shall meet at least four times a year.

(b) The quorum for a Committee meeting shall be five.

(c) In the event of an equality of votes, the Captain, or in her absence, the Chair of the meeting shall have a casting vote.

Annual General Meetings

14.

The financial year shall run from the 1st October to the 30th September.

15.

The Annual General Meeting shall be held towards the end of the calendar year. The business of the meeting shall include:

(a) the presentation and approval of the annual accounts;

(b) the appointment of the officers for the ensuing year.

16.

(a) Voting at the AGM shall be by a show of hands or by a signed proxy. Proxy forms will be available to download on the website prior to the AGM and must be returned to the Honorary Secretary by 9am on the day of the AGM.  Any proposal that is voted on at the AGM shall be passed by a simple majority of votes properly given.

(b) In the event of an equality of votes, the Captain or in her absence, the Chair of the meeting shall have a casting vote.

Subscriptions

17.

The annual subscription shall be fixed by the Committee and shall be payable by the 1st October each year. Any member whose subscription is in arrears at the 30th November in any year will cease to be a member of the Association but can apply for re-election. Anyone wishing to be reinstated will be treated as a new Member and required to pay an entrance fee, annual subscription and submit an updated Nomination Form.

18.

The Committee shall use the funds of the Association in the best interests of women’s senior amateur golf in the SWGA South region.

Rules

19.

The Rules of the SWGA will be reviewed from time to time (version dated) and amendments presented for approval at the Annual General Meeting.

20.

All members are subject to these Rules and any policies which are published on the website.
